What You Need To Have
- Photo Identification: driver’s license, state ID card, or valid passport
- Social Security Numbers (physical cards are not necessary)
- You may be asked to show a certified copy of your birth certificate–check with the county clerk’s office before you apply
What You Need To Know
- There is a three day waiting period after the license has been issued before you can get married
- If both parties complete a Florida pre-marital course, this three day waiting period is waved
- If both parties are not Florida residents, this three day waiting period is also waived
- There is a 60 day window after the issuance of the license in which the ceremony must be performed, otherwise the license will expire
- You can get married in any county in Florida, despite where the license was obtained
- You can apply for a marriage license at any County Clerk’s office, as long as both parties are present with the appropriate documents
- No blood test is required
- Applying for a marriage license does not legally lead to a name change, this is a separate process
What You Need To Pay
- Florida Marriage License Fee: $93.50
- This fee can be reduced by up to $32.50 if a Florida pre-marital course is completed
Florida Pre-Marital Course
- The course must be completed no more than a year in advance from applying for a marriage license
- Both parties must attend the course
- Presentation of a certificate of completion is required in order to receive the discount on the license
- OR a letter from an official representative of a religious institution (that is recognized under the Florida Statute) on official stationary
